Preparation for the Interim Crit: Thursday 2nd February

30 Jan

As a key part of the  module, you are required to take part in three critiques (or crits) of your work: Interim Crit 1 will look at your group’s pre-production material, Interim Crit 2 will look at your group’s rough cut and the Final Crit will look at the finished video.

At each Crit you will record feedback from staff and other students which will form the basis of the continuing work in your individual blogs and of the feedback for the module as a whole. Your performance in each of these Crits will be taken into account when the final marks for your production are calculated. In order to perform as well as possible in each of these, you need to prepare for them.

Interim Crit 1

In this Crit, we will be looking at your pre-production work. You are required to present this work to the rest of the group and you have exactly five minutes to present this (as per your Ignite presentation: www.ignite.co.uk ).  Although you are free to presentwhatever you want in your presentation, it is likely that you will present:

  • your pitch of 25 words or less
  • extracts from your pre-production documentation to date: treatment, mood boards, script, storyboard, production schedule in a form that all members of the audience can see  (either as a handout, within your presentsation or from your blog)
  • evidence of your research (contextual, logisitcal and content) to date and how it is informing your idea
  • reference to existing short films that you have analysed and other moving  image products that may have influenced you. Short screenings from DVD or online are possible and a good idea for quickly getting over an idea of style.
  • any reflections that you have had, as a group, on your work to date

You must take this crit seriously. It is your opportunity to sell your idea and get meaningful feedback on it. This could make the difference between a bad film and a good film or a good film and a GREAT film.
